The Little Things

Maybe it’s my imagination…but the interactions I have shared with strangers in the past days have been so kind and thoughtful. It is the antithesis of some of the outbursts I’ve seen online. I just want to share a couple, because they warmed my heart, and maybe they will encourage you, too.

At the feed store the clerk asked if he could carry my purchase to my car. I didn’t take him up on the offer, but it was very kind of him! I wrestled the dog food to the trunk of my car with a smile on my face.

I needed to go to the post office to ship a tablet to my brother. Unfortunately the box it was in had empty space, which would have made the computer bounce around and be damaged. The postal clerk did not have any extra paper to stuff around it. An unknown woman piped up, “I have some paper in my car, I’ll be right back.” I was stunned and delighted at the same time. It worked perfectly! Again, I smiled all the way to my car.

There is a really great nursery near where I live. I asked about something I noticed on my gardenia. The worker suggested I bring in a clipping. “We don’t want to sell you a product that may not be right.”  Remarkable! And yes, you guessed it, I was smiling when I left.

All three of these acts were those of caring individuals I met at random today. In spite of the sliver of society that is on a rampage, destroying everything they can, there are lots of good-hearted, caring, kind people out there. Let’s follow their example.

Choose to be a light to someone – anyone today. Together we can tip the tide. We are overcomers! Let’s do some intentional acts of kindness and turn our world right-side-up.

“Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.” 1 Cor. 13:13 NLT
