Alone Versus Lonely
At work, I function as kind of an extrovert—unless I happen to be in “analyst” mode. Then, not so much. I have come to the conclusion that the extrovert is simply my “business casual” work personality rather than apparel.
What I find these days is that after a series of days being bathed in fluorescent light, seated in my cubicle, alone time is highly desirable, if not mandatory.
Alone. Not lonely.
The quiet is where and how I recharge.
There is a big difference between feeling lonely and having the introvert require alone time to process and restore. Our world has many distractions—phones, screen time, demands. People having conversations within two feet of me…
Earbuds are a real thing. 🙂
I like these people. Enjoy them. Wish them well. Appreciate them.
And still need to escape.
Sometimes it is the “hands on” activities—chopping veggies, building a sauce—or just wandering through my head, thinking of what the piglets from CurioCity Arts will do next.
My soul is restored in the silence and subsequent creativity of production.
That may sound counterintuitive.
It isn’t.
Besides, I’m never really alone, am I?
